Tony Horton, our former chairman, recalls ... "West Middlesex Scale Model Club has been in existence around the Heathrow area for about 30 years, being known as the Heathrow Scale Model Club when I started attending. From there, the club became the IPMS West Middlesex branch and we attended the annual IPMS National shows. The club's greatest triumph was to win the best Branch Display with a title of ‘Best of British’. This was when the event was held at Castle Donington."
"After some years, Club members became disillusioned with the set-up of the IPMS and the direction in which it was going, leading to a Club decision to cease being an IPMS branch. Coincidentally, the club started to lose its way and was very close to folding totally. During this time, it was the enthusiasm of Don Sharpe that kept the club running. Sadly, Don died and in his honour we hold our annual competition every January and the trophy that's awarded is named after Don. Over the years, we have also had lots of support from Tony, Jan and Claire at A J Aviation (formerly known at The Aviation Hobby Shop) located in Horton Road in West Drayton."
We meet once a month - the meetings are informal and a chance to have a chat, look at and discuss models (finished and in progress), get help and advice, share magazines and books, cover club business and do whatever else takes our fancy. Occasionally we even have a competition. We all learn from each other, whatever our skill and experience and genre that we favour. Currently the Club is buoyant and financially stable, a situation not enjoyed for a number of years. The future looks good for the club and we still try to attend as many model shows as we can through the year. This is a great way for members to display their models to fellow model makers and the public. In late 2015 the club decided to rejoin the IPMS and we are now once again an IPMS Branch (from February 2016).
The club officials are: Chairman - Dave Wardle; President - Dave Turner; Treasurer - Les Clancy. The webmaster for this site is Chris King.

Please come and join us, you'll be most welcome! There's no fee on your first night, and subsequent nights will only cost you £1 (what a bargain), and the Lucan Pavilion has a bar. What more do you need? We look forward to seeing you - and your models.
Click on the photo below to see us on the map. We're easy to find, the road to the Lucan Pavilion and Recreation Ground is directly opposite the Turks Head public house and a few yards from the mini-roundabout. If you are coming from Ashford it's around 50 yards beyond the Three Feathers public house. If you are coming from Shepperton, then it's just around the corner from the Three Horseshoes public house. If you are coming from Staines, it's just under three quarters of a mile from The Angler's Retreat public house. If you have a pint in each one whilst asking for directions you probably will not make it and you would have spent more money on beer than at the club. Please don't drive down Church Close, the vicar is an accommodating chap, but he doesn't host model clubs in his vicarage.
Our current club location every every last tuesday of the month, unless posted otherwise on home page.
